Leia Lewis Henderson is the Founder and Director of Sankofa Vision, Inc. She is a cultural arts worker, organizer, emerging artist, and mother from Shreveport, Louisiana. Blessed and born into large, loving families from North Louisiana, who farmed the Earth for generations, Leia lives by the enduring wisdom of her elders and ancestors:

Through life's ups and downs, this wisdom has empowered Leia to follow her heart’s desires, while growing in self love, compassion, and clarity of her life’s purpose. In 2004, Leia founded Sankofa Vision, Inc., a nonprofit organization that exists to celebrate and cultivate the art, culture, and community life of people of African descent. Sankofa Vision works to overcome the mounting social, economic, and moral challenges that adversely impact the African American community. With a focus on enhancing Shreveport's Linwood-Caddo Heights neighborhood, Sankofa Vision, Inc. is a growing positive force that unifies people of diverse backgrounds to create a better world.
Leia Lewis is a graduate of Caddo Parish Public Schools and the University of New Orleans, where she earned a B.A. in Drama and Communications and M.A. in Arts Administration. Presently, she is completing the M.A. in Teaching Elementary Education from Centenary College of Louisiana. She has more than a decade of experience in the nonprofit sector as a manager, consultant, and events producer. Leia brings a spirit of kindness, bright creativity, clear intuition, and diplomacy to her work. She possesses a talent for organizing people and projects of all scales.

Leia Lewis Hemderson has enjoyed the fortune of visiting ten countries, including Japan, Austria, Jamaica, and India. She gives thanks for her family, friends, and community around the world.
