Leia Lewis Henderson is the Founder and Director of Sankofa
Vision, Inc.
She is a cultural arts worker, organizer, emerging artist, and
mother from Shreveport, Louisiana.  Blessed and born into large, loving
families from North Louisiana, who farmed the Earth for generations, Leia
lives by the enduring wisdom of her elders and ancestors:

  • Put God first.
  • Family is foundation.
  • Character counts.
  • Seek knowledge.
  • Do your best work.
  • And celebrate life!

Through life's ups and downs, this wisdom has empowered Leia to follow
her heart’s desires, while growing in self love, compassion, and clarity of
her life’s purpose. In 2004, Leia founded
Sankofa Vision, Inc.,
a nonprofit organization that exists to celebrate and cultivate
the art, culture, and community life of people of African descent.
Sankofa Vision works to overcome the mounting social, economic, and
moral challenges that adversely impact the African American community.

people of diverse backgrounds to create a better world.
