Sankofa Gardens

Sankofa Vision, Inc. coordinates Sankofa Gardens, an inter-
generational organic community garden and learning campus
in the Caddo Heights-Linwood area of Shreveport, Louisiana.

Residents of the immediate neighborhood and concerned citizens from
other areas maintain a collective food garden. Participants share the
seasonal work of planning, preparing the land, planting, and tending crops.
The organic garden is surrounded by a beautiful campus that hosts
community events, arts activities, and recreation.

Highlights of the Sankofa Gardens program:

  • Participants enjoy quality time in nature. The benefits include
exercise, stress reduction, and family bonding.

  • Participants learn practical life skills such as gardening and
    nutrition.

  • Participants cultivate caring relationships and neighborhood
    pride.

  • Participants raise nearly 100 bushels of delicious vegetables
    and fruit annually.

  • Participants share harvests with the elderly, free of charge.
